Spooner Advocate- Springbrook/Trego Column- August 1, 2013

Hello there friend- August is here! Happy Birthday to all the August birthday people. I have to say a BIG Happy Birthday to my daughter who will be 17 on the 15th. I can't believe it has been that long since she was a little baby! The time sure does fly. I hope everyone has a wonderful birthday and we love you! The 2013 Hayward Quilt Show was this last weekend and I have to say that it was a great show. We had some rain but that did not keep people away. Thank you to all the people that came to see all the beautiful items that were proudly displayed.We appreciate you coming to support the show and the vendors. Congrats to all the raffle winners, silent auction winners and most of all to all the talented people that exhibited their wonderful items. Each of you is really talented and we are grateful that you share your talent with all of us. We would like to invite anyone interested in quilting to come to one of our meetings. The Piecemakers's meet the 2nd Monday of the month at 10:00 am in the conference room at the Sherman and Ruth Weiss Community Library. Any questions please contact haywardpiecemakers@hotmail.com. New local Cooperative Artist Gallery, Art Market 63 has opened at 42790 Hwy 63 South. It’s just 1 mile south of Cable on Highway 63 in the bright red building with plenty of parking. Hours are: Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday noon to 4 pm. Art Market 63 is cooperatively run by local artists who are members of the Cable Hayward Area Arts Council (CHARAC). The members display and staff the gallery on a rotating schedule. The cooperative provides CHARAC artists a place to show, sell and demonstrate their work. Media includes photography, watercolor, other media paintings, jewelry, handcrafted knives, leather goods, fiber art, vintage handcrafted handbags, wood carving, garden art, fused and stained glass, and more! Everything has been created by local Northwood’s artists! Planned Events: Second Annual CHARAC Art Crawl Friday through Sunday August 9, 10 and 11, 2013 Plan to visit individual local artist’s studios (40) from Springbrook, Stone Lake through Hayward and up to Cable and Drummond. Art Market 63 and CHARAC allow the rest of the world to appreciate the creativity and talents of these local artists. New vendors are always welcome to start selling at the LCO Farmers Market, its held every Friday from 9-2 pm at the IGA store on Hwy K. The Spooner Memorial Library has their Summer Reading Program up- sounds like they are off to a really good start with all the folks that they have signed up! They offer an Adult reading program, a Teen-Ager as well as a preschool-12 year old reading program. Mikhaila and I participated in the one last year and it was just a great reason to read a book.... like I need a reason! LOL Anyway the ladies at the library need you to sign-up you and your kids, there are great prizes to win as well! You can get ahold of them at www.spooner.wislib.org, on FaceBook at Spooner Memorial Library or 715-635-2792. The Sherman & Ruth Weiss Community Library have started their summer reading program. You can sign your Pre-K-4th graders up at the library. Its a great way to get kids to spend time reading! Reading can take you on an adventure as a cowboy, or be the first woman to fly a plane- it all can happen while reading a book! Go find a tree to sit under while reading a book.....let your imagination take you on a great adventure! Things to put on your calendar ... Pure Water Days Quilt Show is August 10 from 9:00 am-4:00pm and August 11 from 10:00am -4:00pm. Its held at the Chippewa Falls Senior Center 1000 E Grand Avenue, Chippewa Falls, WI. Admission 1 day for $3.00 or 2day pass for $4.00. Sawyer County Fair is August 15-18th. Fairgrounds office -715-934-2721 if you need a Exibitor's handbook or have questions. Also www.sawyercountyfair.com Springbrook Day at the VFW Post 10568 Canteen, August 31- they open at noon. There is a turkey shoot form 1:00-3:00pm, Pig roast with sweet corn from 3:00- 5:00pm- tickets for adults $8.00 pre-bought- $10 at the door, ages 6-12 $5.00 and Age 5- under ar FREE! Their is also a bounce house, pie contest by the Red Hat ladies and of course music from 5 pm until? Have a great week and keep on smiling!
