Spooner Advocate- Springbrook/Trego Column, July 30, 2015

Good morning. Sure has been hot out there. Please sure that you drink lots of water and check on the animals. Check on any elders in your area as well.

Does anyone out there have any old skirts that they no longer need? Or any fabric to make skirts? We are holding a class at the 1st Medicines Conference and are in need of fabric, elastic, or skirts that are no longer wanted. Any sizes would be welcome. Thank you in advance.

A happy birthday goes out to all the folks with July birthdays! If you are having a birthday this month remember you are special! There is no one quite like you! Over at Wembendangig- The Community Sewing Center, Mary does alterations, patches etc. If you are looking for a class to learn how to sew something let Mary know so she can get it on the calendar. Contact the shop at 715-699-1379.

Northwind Book and Fiber- 205 Walnut Street in Spooner are hosting some kids craft classes on Thursdays at 2:30 pm, June 25- July 30. Also Yarnapalooza 2 is coming on Sat July 18th! More information at or give them a call at 715-635-6811.

August 14,15,16, 2015- WACIPI Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Pow wow.$5 admission for the whole weekend. 10 years and under are free to attend. Admission does include the meal on Saturday. More information  can be found at
August 19-21, 2015- Return To First Medicines 2nd Annual Gathering. A Gathering for adults and children to learn about Sacred Medicines Growing Traditional Foods and how to care for our environment. This event will will be held at Fortune Bay Resort and Casino.

September 11-13, 2015- Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival,  Jefferson Fair Park, Jefferson, WI.

September 19, 2015 Knitting and Crocheting Extravaganza- 9-3 pm at Frederic High School. This years speakers are Sue Dodd, Elaine Owens and Carmella Crandell!
