Spooner Advocate- Springbrook/Trego Column- January 29, 2015

Good morning! I woke up to lovely white fluffy snow out there. I hope everyone takes their time driving in it. Can you believe that January is almost gone? I am looking through all the great seed catalogs that are coming in the mail. The seed catalog companies sure know when we are sick of winter and need some hope of warmer days! I love to sit down with a seed catalog ad a cup of coffee and plan what I will be planting in the spring. So you have a favorite seed catalog? I love Seed Savers Exchange as well as Baker.

Talking about  seeds I will have my 2nd Annual Seed Swap on February 8, 2015 from 10:30- 1:00. This year it will be held at the Spooner Ag Station. The Spooner Ag Station is right outside Spooner on Hwy 70. I will have a sign up outside. Please feel free to come and swap seeds, donate seeds, tubers, bulbs or just come by and chat with me and some other "seedy" people! I will have refreshments so come by and check out the swap.

A BIG thanks to Russ Parker for the awesome bag of Porcupine quills! I am soooo excited!

Good morning! Well the sun is out today but it sure has been cold out there lately! I hope that everyone is staying warm and healthy! Heard that there are some people that have been sick, wishing them a speedy recovery!

The Fond du Lac Pow- wow was awesome this last weekend! There was a good turn out and so many beautiful dancers! It was fun that we had some people from Puerto Rico there. They were very impressed with the whole event. Couldn't believe the dancers, they said they had nothing like that in Puerto Rico! Chi-Miigwech to all the people who danced, volunteered, worked the event. Thank you to the Veterans that were there! Chi- Miigwech to Black Bear Casino and all the employees!

Spooner Advocate- Springbrook Column- January 8, 2015

Hey there! Man is it cold out there! Please be safe during these really cold days, check on people that are home bound. If you do not have to go anywhere please stay off the road. The worse thing would be to break down in this weather! Remember to bring the animals in- if you are cold they are cold! I hope to see some of you at the Pow Wow up at Black Bear this weekend.

Was reading in the paper about a guy who gave a lady at the Red Cross Drug Store some money during the holidays. The person writing the letter was one of the people who was there to witness such a great act of generosity! Many people call it paying something forward... you give something to someone and at a point in their life they do the same for someone else (pay it forward).  I have had the privilege of having someone help me out and it was awesome! I am still friends with Amanda! But I have to say when I was the person helping someone else out it changed my life. It humbled me in a way that I can not explain. It made me realize that a  true love for another human being is possible, I don't need to know them,  I may never see them again, but that I can help them in that one hard moment in their life. It is a true connection with that person, its what God would want us to do. The best is when you do it anonymous. So I send out a challenge to  everyone who reads this.... go do something for someone. No strings attached, no IOU's! It could be as simple as a book given to a reader, it could be money given to a single mom. I would love to hear some of what is going on out there. So let me know and I will keep all peoples names out of the column. We all need a little positive energy in our lives.

Hope you had a wonderful and safe holiday! I am sure there were alot of people traveling. I hope each of you had a wonderful holiday celebrating it in whatever way you choose! I hope each of you had some down time to just do something for yourself! Our holiday was spent at home, eating and watching movies, knitting! Sometimes its the lack of running around and just sitting still is the best part of the holiday!
