The Healing Quilt by Wanda Brunstetter

Well Wanda has done another wonderful book! I always love to read her books, but I have to have a clear day to read it right through! I always want to find out what is going to happen! Her stories always suck me in!

Lamar and Emma Yoder Miller are living in Florida during the winter months as Lamar has trouble with arthritis.Emma enjoys the warmer weather but is missing her family, friends and one of her favorite past times...quilting. Lamar suggests that to pass the time maybe they could teach a quilting class in their new home.

A real mixture of all walks of life come together for this special quilting class. Each one has their own struggle- new baby, illness, workaholic, relationships, challenges. All are having many problems that they can not get a grip on but when they start the quilting class they seem to have help not only from Emma and Lamar but also from God.

I really like the way Wanda blends everyday problems that are occurring with many people all over the country and spins hope into those situations with prayer. She shows that even when we are at the bottom we can pray about our issues as well as help others out with theirs. Our problems do not always get "fixed" the way that we think they will. Life takes us on many twists and turns and many times it isn't fair. However; if we look at each new day as a gift and look past our problems many times we can see a different view- and help someone else.

I would suggest giving this book a read. Be prepared to want to help someone and to learn how to quilt! Thanks  to Shiloh Run Press for the copy of this book. All they ask for is a book review to be posted. This as all Wanda Brunstetter books is a good read!

Goodbye to Yesterday by Wanda Brunstetter

 



Hey all you Wanda Brunstetter lovers... here is another great book from our favorite writer.
Luke and Meredith Stoltzfus are a young married couple that are going through some of the same struggles that we are all facing or have faced. Luke loses his job at the furniture store even though he is a talented woodworker, this starts a frustration inside of him as he is not able to provide for his family.
As he is struggling with his being laid off, not meeting bills, and all the extra stress that comes with problems. The one peron he pushes away and hides his feelings from is his wife. Will this hurt their relationship, will they become close again? Meredith is going through her own stress with having no money coming in, Luke does not want her to get a job and should she tell him her big secret?
As a new job becomes available can Luke rise to the occasion and learn the trade? Can Meredith keep her secret? Will this new job be a blessing or will it just bring more trying times for this young couple?
This was a great book. I love that Ms. Brunstetter went with a little bit of a different type of book- its thin, tall and part 1 of a 6 set series.

Book Review-The Fiddler by Beverly Lewis

I really enjoyed reading the new Beverly Lewis book The Fiddler. She did a wonderful job of blending two people from different backgrounds that were each at a crossroads in their life. Both are very hard working, goal oriented people that do not want to let their families down but at the same time feel smothered by what they are expected to do. I appreciate that Ms Lewis does not have them take the easy way out which would be to throw in the towel and do what they want when they want it. Instead she has them think it through, get counsel from various different people and then follow through with some previous obligations.
It is always refreshing to see an author show their characters with some depth, morals and values. I like when I read a book and the character remembers something that they had been taught but may not have been living to the fullest. This book shows with Amelia that she had not been living a life where she was being true to herself and honest with her family. She had forgotten the simple pleasures of some of the things that she had learned with her Grandmother, including talking to God and having a relationship with him. It all shows that Michael is very family oriented, has a strong faith but still has to make some hard decisions. It shows that tough decisions can be made with putting others first and waiting on the right timing. I think we forget that as we live in a very instant, give it to me now world that is pretty "self-centered".
It was refreshing to be reminded that although we all walk our own road in life we all go through similar trials, its how we deal with those trials that makes the journey good or bad.
