Spooner Advocate- Springbrook Column November 27,2014

Good morning! We are experiencing snow once again! It is so strange as yesterday it was all melting and leaving puddles everywhere! I hear people have been having luck finding deer out there! Please stay safe!

I hope each of you has a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration. There are some of us who celebrate a harvest celebration as well. Which ever holiday you celebrate take a moment and share what you are thankful for. I believe in today's busy, hectic, self-centered world we often lose track of what we are really blessed with. We often take things for granted. Please remember that its the little things in your life that really matter the most- time spent with family, a good cup of coffee on a cold winter morning, warm food to put in your belly, a dog that is happy to see you at the end of the day. Be grateful for all that you have been gifted. I am grateful for my health, my daughter, my farm, my animals, rain and snow that will bring forth new life in the spring, other gardeners and seed keepers that are my friends. The wonderful man in my life, many dear friends, hot coffee, warm blankets! Be safe during the holiday break!

I want to wish all the hunters out there good luck! Please be careful and really pay attention to your surroundings and who and what is around you. I already hard of someone that fell out of their stand because of faulty equipment and someone who shot a bow hunter cuz he thought he was a squirrel. Check your equipment before you need to use it and replace it if faulty. Know who is around you and know what you are shooting before you shoot.  Have a successful hunting season! Fill those freezers up!

Art Market 63 is having their $10/10% Holiday Sale Event on Saturday December 6, 2014 from 10-4. They are located at 42790 Highway 63 in Cable, WI. If you have questions they can be reached at 715-413-0927 or cablehaywardarts.org.

Spooner Advocate- Springbrook Column- November 13, 2014

Good day friends-  Snow! All I can say is do we have to get it all in one big dump! LOL Please be careful out there! Drive safe, put your winter kits in the car and a blanket and shovel. If you do not need to go out please don't!

Happy Veterans Day to all the Vets and their families! Thank you so much for what you have done for this country as well as for my family. Freedom does not come free and I would just like to personally say thank you for all that you have done or are about to do. My dad served this country and I never was really able to spend a Veterans Day with him. So I would like to say a big thank you to some of my military friends Mark Mc Connell, Doug Houn, Juanita Thompson, Cris Marlow- I appreciate all that you and your family have gone through with being in the military.

I want to wish all the hunters out there good luck! Please be careful and really pay attention to your surroundings and who and what is around you. Spooner Advocate- Springbrook Column, November 6, 2014

Good day friends-  Sorry I missed last week. School and work have been kicking my backside and there never seems to be enough time in a day to get everything done. I hear other people talking about this too so I guess I cam not the only one that is feeling this. I do have to say that I am glad its a little lighter out there now that we have fallen back an hour. I seem to drag myself around when it is dark in the morning and dark early in the night and then dark all day long! LOL

I want to wish all the hunters out there good luck! Please be careful and really pay attention to your surroundings and who and what is around you. Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College is hosting a College Fair and Higher Education Youth Experience on Thursday November 6, 2014. It will be held in the Cultural Resource Center and the Student Center from 9:30- 2:30 PM. This is a great event for high schools to bring the future students to LCO and see what they want to do when they graduate. There will be representatives from other Colleges and Universities that will be here to answer questions and give people some direction. Sure would like it if the Homeschooling groups out there came and checked out the fair! Everyone is welcome here at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College- you do not need to be Ojibwe to attend LCO! Hope to see you there,

Does anyone out there have sewing/quilting items that they are no longer using? Reason I ask is that we have been holding sewing classes at the college and there are always people that do not have a machine. If you would like to donate anything like this just let me know and I can figure a time to pick it up. I know I am a sewing machine collector- I have an old singer (doesn't work), my Grandma Andre's machine, and the machine my friend Anita gave me- this is an oldie but goodie and what I sew on! Anita gave me this machine when I decided to get back into quilting- she also shared a rotary cutter and mat with me! She is awesome!

Spooner Advocate - Springbrook Column, October 23, 2014

Good day friends-  Hope that everyone  is enjoying the fall weather. The trees sure were beautiful this year! But they sure seemed to turn quickly! I think the whole summer and fall has gone by in a blur! I have to say I am not looking forward to the cold weather that is going to be coming soon! No way! Is everyone ready for the snow when it comes?

Today would have been my dad's 75th birthday. Its hard to believe that he has been gone for 19 years already. My daughter was born the year after he passed away. It is sad sometimes to think of all the things I missed out on with my dad being he passed so early. If you have someone in your own life that means alot to you please let them know, they will not be here forever. Life really is too short to live like there is always a tomorrow.... sometimes there is not one!

Good day friends-  Hope that everyone  is enjoying the fall. I can't believe its the beginning of Fall and I had to turn the heat on! If its getting this chilly now I really do not want to see winter! I barley made it through last week with all the rain! Not my favorite thing that is for sure. I am glad that the plants are all getting a good soaking before it gets cold. I hope you are all getting out your winter items and putting away those summer things. Don't want old mother nature to pull a quick on on you!

Spooner Advocate- Springbrook Column - August 28, 2014

Good day friends- Are we enjoying this weather? It sure is strange isn't it? The rainstorm last night was nice and it sure was muggy out there yesterday! I sure hope that no one had bad weather as there were tornado warning out for some of our counties as well as MN. I am not fond of tornadoes- been in one to many dangerous ones!

How are the gardens coming? Seems like everything is late this year. Plus some things have been washed out and will not becoming back! Any canners out there? I hope I am not the only one! I would like to make some corn cob jelly- I know it sounds weird but hey I want to see if I can use all the product up. Anyone else out there ever eaten this or made it?  If you  have extra produce I hope you share it with friends.

Dave Parker from the Springbrook VFW gave me a call to let everyone know about Springbrook Days! They are being held Saturday, August 30th in the town of Springbrook. The VFW will have a slip and slide, bouncy house, and they would like to do a parade again. The VFW will be having a BBQ Pork Feed from 12-2 or so.... Adults are $8.00 and kids are $5.00. This is always a really good time, so come out and show your local area your support! If you have questions or would like to sign up to be in the parade please give the VFW a call at 715-766-2128
My U of M-Duluth Bulldog will be leaving soon! We are busy packing and man it is kind of hard. Been with this snotty nose kid for so long I wonder what it will be like to live by myself! LOL Of course I am not by myself with all the animals I have, but still not all of them walk around saying mmmaaaaaaa this and mmmaaaaa that! She leaves on Thursday so please keep us in prayer.

Good luck to all the Hayward and Spooner graduates that are going on to school or working! I hope this is a great time in your life!  Please be safe as you go out into the big world, ask for help if you need it and enjoy it! You are only this age once!

Mikhaila let me know that  Kaelan Anderson good to college in MI safely, that was a relief! Once again the best of luck at college this fall! I know you will do a great job and achieve all those goals that you are setting! Have a fantastic first semester!

Happy Birthday to all the August birthdays out there!  Happy birthday to my darling daughter Mikhaila who turns 18 on the 15th!
