Hello there friend- August is here! Happy Birthday to all the August birthday people. I have to say a BIG Happy Birthday to my daughter who will be 17 on the 15th. I can't believe it has been that long since she was a little baby! The time sure does fly. I hope everyone has a wonderful birthday and we love you! The 2013 Hayward Quilt Show was this last weekend and I have to say that it was a great show. We had some rain but that did not keep people away. Thank you to all the people that came to see all the beautiful items that were proudly displayed.We appreciate you coming to support the show and the vendors. Congrats to all the raffle winners, silent auction winners and most of all to all the talented people that exhibited their wonderful items. Each of you is really talented and we are grateful that you share your talent with all of us. We would like to invite anyone interested in quilting to come to one of our meetings. New local Cooperative Artist Gallery, Art Market 63 has opened at 42790 Hwy 63 South. It’s just 1 mile south of Cable on Highway 63 in the bright red building with plenty of parking. Hours are: Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday noon to 4 pm. Art Market 63 is cooperatively run by local artists who are members of the Cable Hayward Area Arts Council (CHARAC). The members display and staff the gallery on a rotating schedule. The cooperative provides CHARAC artists a place to show, sell and demonstrate their work. Media includes photography, watercolor, other media paintings, jewelry, handcrafted knives, leather goods, fiber art, vintage handcrafted handbags, wood carving, garden art, fused and stained glass, and more! Art Market 63 Now Open for Business

Cable, Wisconsin – New local Cooperative Artist Gallery, Art Market 63 opened Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 42790 Hwy 63 South. It’s just 1 mile south of Cable on Highway 63 in the bright red building with plenty of parking.  Hours are: Thursday through Monday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday  noon to 4 pm.

Spooner Advocate Column- July 25,2013

Hello there friend-Were you able to get out and enjoy the cooler weather? I was really happy when the cooler weather rolled in as we were at the LCO Pow-wow all weekend. I have to say it was quite a turnout and everyone had a great time! The Aztec dancers were very cool too see all dressed up and well... what a dance! So much energy! I would never make it through just one of their dances!

CHARAC is bringing Art to the Streets of Cable!

Twenty-four (24) talented local artists will be featured in a variety of colorful images to brighten up the village streets.  The banners will go up on the utility poles throughout the community the last week of May and will remain through August 24th.

To launch this event, CHARAC is hosting an Opening Reception on May 31 from 5-8 pm at Rivers Eatery in Cable.  There will be art, artists, sponsors, music, and a special menu available that night.  Do join us!

Then all of the original art will be displayed at Rondeau’s throughout the summer.  Just go left as you enter their store through the hardware/housewares section and take your opportunity to see the art that inspired the banners.

A special thanks to the Cable business community. With their generous support, CHARAC and its member artists have helped turn the whole town into a work of art.

Avis Ann Rosenlund’s first step into the glass world was in the early 1970’s in San Diego, California learning lead and copper foil techniques of making glass panels.   While a teaching member of a Stained Glass club in Fort Worth for Lockheed Martin, she took a variety of fused glass classes at the Las Vegas Glass Expo.  AAR Originals started business in 2000 in Fort Worth, Texas as a way to showcase and sell unique fused glass jewelry that Avis created and later included bowls and plates, replica fused glass buildings, a signature layered cross called “Stav Kirke”, as well as other types of fused glass art pieces.   After her husband Russ’ retirement, they built a log home on a family tree farm that includes a full teaching studio area.  The studio is open by appointment or chance and offers  a variety of group or individual classes.   Avis also dabbles in hand formed clay fish and PMC;  while husband Russ helps with the glass work and adds his own woodworking pieces.

On the Bookshelf....The Icecutter's Daughter by Tracie Peterson July 14,2013

What is on the bookshelf here at the Lampert Home?

Well right now I am currently reading The Icecutter's Daughter by Tracie Peterson.

I have to say that I love to read a good book. In the past I have read Tracie Peterson's books and I can't ever remember being disappointed.

I was interested in reading this book as the main character Merrill is a strong woman, taking care of her brothers and father in 1895.

 The book draws you in as you are wondering what has happened to put Merrill in this position of taking care of her family. You wonder what she really wants out of her life, is she happy with what has happened. Does she want kids and a husband? Where would she find someone, would her family let her get married if she did find someone acceptable? I found that I can symphathize with her and her situation very easily.

The bonus for me is that it is set in Minnesota! Being I am from Minnesota I really like to read books that are based in my home area. Makes the book really come to life for me!

I really enjoyed this book, it was a book that you wanted to start and keep reading until it was done. I would recommend reading this book or buy one for a gift.

I did receive this book free of charge. All that Bethany House asked me to do was to post an honest book review to my blog. 



Spooner Advocate Column- June 27, 2013

Hello there neighbor- Well it is either raining or it is 85 in the shade. It is one of these summers I guess! I am still trying to get my own garden in and well it has been a struggle! I have gotten most of the tools and the plants to all the outreach sites that I am planting community gardens at- they are not all planted at this time. But they have the tools and if it stays nice and stops raining we should have them planted this week! Please say a prayer for me as I am doing alot of traveling and well there have been obstacles so just pray it all goes good.
 
Musky Fest was this weekend in Hayward and it sure looked like there was alot of people in town for the events. I sure hope all the visitors have fun while they are in our great state of WI. To all the new folks out there thanks for coming to WI, we hope you like your stay! Please have a safe vacation while you are here.

I have to say a BIG thank you to all the people that helped put on the Sawyer County Dairy Breakfast at the Hayward fairgrounds! You all did a wonderful job! It was a bit rainy but hey none of us melted and we warmed up with a yummy breakfast. It is always fun to meet up with old friends-Teresa from Springbrook Organic Dairy, as always she had her wonderful products with for all of us to enjoy! It was fun to meet up with the Anderson family from Springbrook and eat breakfast with them. It always amazes Deb and I how much food Kaelon and Mikhaila can put away. They both have hollow legs and of course they are always on the go. Larry and the Drifters were very good to listen too- they were even doing requests! Overall it was a great time and thanks again to all the people that work so hard to get this put together every year!

Spooner Advocate Column- June 20, 2013

Hello there neighbor- I hope all the dads out there had a wonderful day yesterday! We had nice weather so maybe some people were out fishing or working in the garden. Speaking of fishing, anybody out there have some extra fishing poles sitting around? I would really like to teach my daughter how to fish and actually learn again myself.... I haven't fished since my grandmother and I dug a can full of worms and had cane poles! Years have gone by, but I have some fond memories of that time. I thank you in advance for any fishing tips- I am feeling pretty clueless.....but I did get the book from the DNR so I will start reading that. Can't believe that it is almost the end of June! Where has the summer gone? I sure hope everyone is having fun while they are in our great state of WI. We welcome all of you out of towners back to the cabins.
