Garage Sale Finds

Hello there friends. Are you and your family surviving the heat? I sure do hope everythng is going good for you and your friends and family wherever you are.Thank God the heat has broke alittle here. Its strange when you feel like 70' and 80's are cold! LOL It cools off so much at night that sitting by the window you get cold!
The animals have been doing pretty good, we have had some sickness- the goose had a cold. Some other weird things but overall we have been doing pretty good. My heart goes out to folks in Colorado, please keep them in your prayers. I wish I was closer so that I could put some of their animals up here at the farm! Colorado is such a wonderful state, all that distruction just is so sad.
A couple weekends ago when we were out quilt shop hopping we hit a really good sale. It must have been a sale where they were getting rid of extras of a family member, downsizing fabric stashes. So I was very excited when I found some really awesome stuff. The only things that would have been the topper to a great cake would have been a finished quilt and a sewing machine!! For whatever reason I really like old sewing machines- I love all kinds and am always looking out for more! LOL Plus I would love to get ahold of an old quilt, even somethng that is very used or not put together. I don't have one quilt around here can you believe it???
Anyhow someday..... here we go with the finds.

So I have been wanting one of thesefor a LONG time, I was to cheap to buy one! So I scored this at the sale with all the thread for $5!  Score!!

There are Mikhaila's choice of fabrics, so they will go in her stash. There was alot of fabric for $1!

Handmade bag that Mikhaila had to have.

Love the pom poms! And such a bright  floral fabric.

A little fabric to add to my stash!

This is one of the old chenille bedspreads. It is white and has a great pattern on it. I need to figure out something to make from it- Ii am thinking throw pillows for the bed, with some pom-poms around the out side edge. hmm or  some stuffed animals.

Here is a picture without the flash so you can see the pattern, got this cheap as it has some stains. Don't know what kind as I have yet to open it up completely and check. =)

This is what I am so glad Mikhaila found! It is so cool! It is alittle dusty as you can see.

It came with all the goodies that are shown on it.

The old pins- wonder what they were used for ? Makes me wonder who made it, how old is it. Wouldn't it be cool to hear the story this little rocking chair could tell?

The chair also has a scissors  that is right behind the cushion in its own little holder. Such a great idea!

This was my gift to my daughter for the day! LOL A great find on my part!

Isn't it too cute?? Oh such a find!

This was the third great find. Someone was scrappy! I am pretty sure that this is going to turn into a longer pillow. It is pretty long and not too wide. Plus it would be too challenging with my limited stash to match the fabric.

I really like the buttons! The floral above it is very interesting as well! Very excited to have gotten this- The only thing that I have in my stash that is a quilt! LOL

A close-up of some of the fabrics and if you look close there are some with hand stitching on them.
I hope you have enjoyed the cool additons to the sewing room. Glad I could show them to you. Have you found any goodies lately? I wold love to hear about them!
Have a great weekend!

Try- It Tuesday- Rabbits!

Good mornng friends how are you on this cooler morning? I wish we could sit on the porch and have a cup of tea but things are alittle busy here in the mornings as we have to do everything when its cooler. Do you drink hot tea in the mornings when its warm or do you do cold tea? I go back and forth this morning I think I will have a hot cup of the spearmint from over at the Mennonite store- The Country Pantry. I think I will try to make some cold sparmint tea and see how that is.We have been brewing alot of sun tea this summer that is for sure!
Well today is Try-It Tuesday. If you have been following my blog for awhile then you know I hook up with Jo over at Jo's Country Junction and folks share what they have been trying and sometimes those things work and well sometimes they don't. Yesterday I shared something that Mikhaila was trying- Log rolling! She really liked it!!! She wants to go back and practice some more.
My thing that I am trying again is rabbits. Mikhaila and I use to really be into rabbits, showed them, raised them.We have had at least one rabbit in the barn forever. About a year ago we lost our last on and well I really did not have the housing for them- our old place did not have a garage or any out buildings so I thought lets not get any more. Well that really has ben hard as I am a HUGE rabbit lover, they ar right up there with my poultry and sheep! So A friend Cris had some extra buns in her barn and we got tham awhile back. The two girls are sisters and  are wondering what we are doing taking their picture! LOL

We have wanted to get a buck and get some babies. Yes, they would be for meat as we are trying to live more sustainable here on the farm. Rabbit meat is very healthy for you and rabbits do produce many babies so there wold not be a shortage of product.
We are still looking for a buck for the girls, but  my sister called and she needs some room in here bunny barn so she wanted to know if we wanted any. Of course I said yes as she is raising the same breed of rabbit that I was raising before Dwarf Hotot!! So we are getting some buns from her today-  I am really excited. Plus she is going to breed the rabbits we get from her - so that should mean bunnies in the future! I will update this post later with some pictures of the new bunnies.
Here is one last picture for now.... Rebbie is still sitting on her nest! Oh I do hope we get some babies! Mikhaila went and stuck the 2 duck eggs that China laid under Rebbie too! She did not even care! LOL

Rebbie on her nest on the floor, in the corner of the pole barn by the garage door! We give her food and water over there by her nest as she does not want to come off it now at all and with the hot weather we don't want her sick.
Ok for now I am done sharing. Please go over to Jo's Country Junction. and see what others are trying out on this beautiful Tuesday! Check back later to see the other buns!

So Mikhaila met a nice young lady from PA at the Sawyer County Breakfast acouple weekends ago. I got to meet her mom Karen, both very nice! Mikhaila and Austin have been getting along very well and got to hangout at the lake in their backyard, they also went with us to the Pasture walk in Hayward which was held the same day!So Mikhaila found out Austin was taking some lessons up at the Lumberjack in Hayward, WI. What did Mikhaila say... "How cool I want to be a Lumberjack!" So guess what we did on Friday 6/29? Yup to Hayward we went. =)

So here she is being told to get up on th log. This is where it would have been all over for me! Talk about having to have balance!

Here she is with the instructor, getting all the pointers of what to do to stay on the log!

She is being told tiny steps.

Here we go....

In the  meantime Austin was practicing on her own log.

She is down in the water but not for long!

Such balance! Strike a pose!

Here they are practicing. Thanks so much for the pointers Austin!

Up we go again. Talk about focus!
So we all had a great time. The weather was warm, a great day to be in the water! If you are ever in the Hayward area please stop in to see the Lumberjacks, they do a  daily show! Thanks for all the help Austin!

Book Review-The Fiddler by Beverly Lewis

I really enjoyed reading the new Beverly Lewis book The Fiddler. She did a wonderful job of blending two people from different backgrounds that were each at a crossroads in their life. Both are very hard working, goal oriented people that do not want to let their families down but at the same time feel smothered by what they are expected to do. I appreciate that Ms Lewis does not have them take the easy way out which would be to throw in the towel and do what they want when they want it. Instead she has them think it through, get counsel from various different people and then follow through with some previous obligations.
It is always refreshing to see an author show their characters with some depth, morals and values. I like when I read a book and the character remembers something that they had been taught but may not have been living to the fullest. This book shows with Amelia that she had not been living a life where she was being true to herself and honest with her family. She had forgotten the simple pleasures of some of the things that she had learned with her Grandmother, including talking to God and having a relationship with him. It all shows that Michael is very family oriented, has a strong faith but still has to make some hard decisions. It shows that tough decisions can be made with putting others first and waiting on the right timing. I think we forget that as we live in a very instant, give it to me now world that is pretty "self-centered".
It was refreshing to be reminded that although we all walk our own road in life we all go through similar trials, its how we deal with those trials that makes the journey good or bad.
I would highly recommend reading this book. I want to thank Bethany House for sending out a copy to me free of charge. All that they ask of me is to post a review, good or bad. I would also like to thank Ms. Lewis for writing another good book that I have had the privilege to read.

Spooner Advocate Column- June 28, 2012

Hello there neighbors. Wow are you as busy as I feel I am? Seems there is always something to do or to go check out. This was one of those weekends where there was plenty to choose from!
This was the last weekend of the Wi Quilt Shop Hop, if you went around the state looking at the different stores were you surprised how different they all were? How about the great folks that worked at them? Talk about some really wonderful people! Also talk about goodies to drool over! Wow! I was really good and really just focused on getting the blocks that the stores offered and looking at the different projects that everyone had to offer. Don't worry I took notes on what I want and who had it! LOL Two of my favorite new stores are Heartlight Quilt Shop in Ladysmith- You can get hold of Kathleen at www.heartlighthouse.com and Bolts of Fun Quilt Shop in Thorp- you can get ahold of Sandy at www.boltsoffun.com. Yes they are alittle ways away. However they are both worth the drive! Sandy has the cutest dog! Kathleen has amazing old quilts all over her porches!

A big thank you goes out to all the folks that helped put the Sawyer County Breakfast together. Wow they really did a great job getting all of us through the food lines! I was amazed how many people showed up as it was raining- however that did not dampen anyone's spirits! We met some new people at the breakfast, even someone who reads my column, hi Phyllis! Such a small world we live in! It saddens me that the dairy breakfasts are now over for the year- it does make me start dreaming about next year tho! I don't know why the food taste so much better when someone else cooks it or when you eat it outside! I look forward to seeing you all again next year! Remember to thank the farmers for all their hard work when you see them!

Speaking of things that are held only once a year I hope you have your projects ready for the Washburn County Fair! The fair is right around the corner July 26-29, 2012 at the Washburn Fair Grounds in Spooner. You can get all the  entry forms on the computer at  www.washburncountyfair.com, the registration deadline is July 13. If you are going to be submitting entries for the Sawyer County Fair, the fair runs August 16-19, 2012 in Hayward. The registration deadline is August 3, 2012 and all the info and forms can be found at www.sawyercountyfair.org. We are big supporters of local fairs and have been entering projects in them for 10 years now- its not just for the young kids you know! Hope this is the year you take  the big step and enter something, you will have fun doing it  and you might even win a ribbon! See you at the fair!

A big thank you goes out to the Shuman Cattle Company in Hayward. They had us all out for a pasture walk on Sat and about 70+ people showed up! They have some beautiful animals, very calm for animals that size! Tweed and his family did a great job at making us feel welcome, showing us around the farm, letting us see how they still use horses to move the cattle and letting us ask questions! They served a delicious lunch for all that attended as well! Great job guys! Thanks for hosting a pasture walk! If you missed this pasture walk there are others scheduled, if you need an Agricultural Newsletter give Kevin or Otto a call at the Ag Station- 715-635-3506.

Do you have information to share with your neighbors?  Please give me a call 715-766-2221 or drop me an e-mail twogiirlsandagarden@hotmail.com
Have a wonderful week!
